Welcome to the website of the Belgian restaurant “El Nautil”. This renowned restaurant on the Spanish Costa Brava is located in Sta. Margarita at the Avinguda de la Bocana, right upon the waterside.

The restaurant is attractively decorated and features a splendid outdoor terrace on the canal with a unique view of the hinterland and the Pyrenees. It has a relaxed atmosphere where leisure and pleasure are paramount.

 The restaurant’s Belgian-oriented cuisine is invariably highly appreciated by our international guests. This is not only reflected in social media, but also by the fact that our guests always seek to return.

Our story

Owners Dirk and Veronique are perennially busy with their restaurant. Dirk can look back on a long and fruitful career in the restaurant business that started with traiteur-fish shop ‘Paelinck’ in Ghent, followed by restaurant ’t Keukentje’ in Deurle/Sint-Martens-Latem. Here, Dirk learned the tricks of the trade over many years and developed as an all-round professional.  

In 2000 Dirk and Veronique took the step to continue independently in Spain. Here they ended up at restaurant 'El Nautil', Santa Margarida near Rosas on the Costa Brava. It was in this place that Dirk’s love for a decent, good kitchen with fresh daily produce and an emphasis on honest dishes became reflected in all his creations. As a good hostess, Veronique takes care of the correct service, the right drinks and the smooth-running organization required so that guests can enjoy delicious dishes in an attractive atmosphere. That is why you will find all kinds of Belgian dishes on our menu, refined with a 'Mediterranean touch': fish dishes, an extensive range of meat dishes and of course the Belgian specialty 'mussels with fries'.
